Latest update on the aUSD issue
As far as our current investigation shows, the Interlay parachain is NOT directly affected
What we know so far 👇
The issue occurred on Acala, around the time the iBTC/aUSD pool went live (13 August, 22:41 UTC).
The current suspicion is that the incentives pallet was paying too many aUSD rewards, allowing the attacker to "mint" 1.2 billion aUSD.
Full history:
The main risk is/was that the attacker might buy iBTC and try to exit the system by redeeming for BTC - which would make it difficult for Acala to rollback / restore.
So far we could not confirm that any accounts associated with the attack tried to redeem iBTC.
Specifically, the attacker account itself has not been observed to do any XCM transfers.
There may be others - this is being investigated.
We are, together with our community (see Discord, vault-lounge chat: discord.gg/Db4aFGCsJz) doing on-chain data analysis to track transactions and see if any of the "damage" swept over to Interlay.
We will continue sharing updates as things develop
